The Worksite Wellness Initiative is a partnership of Dakota Medical Foundation (DMF), Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Dakota (BCBSND), and Healthy North Dakota.
According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, for a typical worksite of 25 employees, you will find:
- 16 are overweight or obese
- 4 have high blood pressure
- 13 have 2+ risk factors for heart disease
- 4 get no leisure time physical activity
- 7 have high cholesterol
- 3 have had a heart attack or stroke
- 6 binge-drink or have been diagnosed with heart disease
- 5 smoke
- 1 has diabetes
Many of these conditions are preventable with lifestyle changes. Since employees spend so many waking hours at work, employers are in an ideal position to influence healthful decision-making through a worksite wellness program.
Worksite wellness programs can:
- Decrease absenteeism
- Bolster employee morale
- Improve productivity
- Enhance your company's image
- Help manage time/stress
- Make you an employer of choice
- Assist in recruitment/retention
To learn more about implementing a new or enhancing an existing worksite wellness program, contact Pete Seljevold or see North Dakota Worksite Wellness.
